How To Play Omaha And Omaha Poker Rules

Omaha is a poker game played by two to ten players. The object is same as any other poker game, to make the best 5-card poker hand. Let us now understand how to play Omaha and know how different Omaha poker rules are from Texas Holdem.

How To Play Omaha According To Omaha Poker Rules?

  • One of the players is made the dealer, who deals the cards. After each hand the dealer position is rotated clockwise.
  • As per Omaha rules, before the cards are dealt, the blind bets are put which starts with the player to the left of the dealer putting up the Small Blind (usually half the minimum bet). Then the next player in the rotation puts the Big Blind (which is equal to the minimum bet). This is how the pot gets started.
  • Unlike Texas Holdem, according to Omaha poker rules, in Omaha only four cards are dealt to each player. These are called Pocket Cards or Hole Cards.
  • Now the Round of Betting starts. The player to the left of the player, who put the Big Blind, starts the round. The options available to the player are fold, check, call, bet, raise or re-raise. The round ends when all the players have either announced their last bet or folded.
  • The dealer deals three community cards face-up in the center of the table. This is called Flop which is followed by another round of betting.
  • Then comes the Turn in Omaha poker rules, in which a fourth community card is dealt face-up next to the Flop. After which a third round of betting occurs.
  • The River as per Omaha poker rules is the final community card, is positioned face-up next to the Turn and then the last round of betting occurs.
  • After the betting concludes, the showdown occurs. All the players compare their five-card poker hands. Herein each player must use two of the hole cards and three of the common cards in order to complete a five-card poker hand. The player with the highest hand rankings wins the pot. So here lies the big difference between Omaha and Texas Holdem poker. In Texas holdem rules , you can use any combination of your two face-down cards and five community cards to make your best hand. There is no restriction on the quantity of the cards taken from your hand or from the board. While Omaha poker rules say that you must use both your hole cards while forming your best hand.
  • After the pot gets distributed, the dealer's position shifts clockwise to the next player on the left and the same procedure continues for the deal of a new hand.

The above mentioned procedure and Omaha poker rules are given by experts. A thorough understanding of these rules of poker are needed to play a good game of poker. So go ahead and master them!
