Poker Rules Texas Holdem - A Learner's Guide

Texas Holdem is the most popular form of poker. It involves four rounds of betting. As per the poker rule guide, Texas Hold'em players get two down cards as their hole cards (personal cards), and then a betting round follows. Three broad cards are simultaneously turned (referred as the flop), following by another betting round. Then, the next two broad cards are turned, one at a time, and betting happens after each card is turned. These five broad cards are called community cards.

How To Make The Best Hand

According to Texas holdem poker rules, players can use a combination of five cards from the board or personal cards. They can only use five of the seven cards. The best five-card poker hand, formed by using any of the seven community or hole cards, wins the poker pot.

Players can use both of their hole cards, just one hole card or absolutely no hole card, in a bid to make a hand. The game of Texas hold em poker rules, flows as mentioned below:

Understanding The Game Play

  • One player is the dealer. In casino games where the dealer is static, a button rotates clockwise to notate the player who acts as the "dealer" for that hand.
  • The two players on the dealer's left are known as the small and big blinds, respectively. Only these two players have cash in the pot even before the poker cards are dealt.
  • Each player gets two hole cards face down.
  • The player sitting on the left of the big blind begins the first round of betting, and the rounds continue clockwise.
  • After the first round is over, three community cards turned face-up on the poker table. This stage in the game is called the flop.
  • The second betting round of betting starts with the immediate remaining player seated left of the dealer, and again continues clockwise.
  • After the second round of betting gets over, a fourth community card is turned face-up on the poker table. This is known as the turn.
  • Then the third round of betting begins, again with the first remaining player seated on the button's left. The betting continues clockwise. In limit-betting games, the bets double on the turn.
  • When the third round is complete, the fifth community card is turned face-up. This is called river.
  • Then comes the fourth betting round, wherein the first remaining poker player seated left of the button begins betting that again continues clockwise.
  • Now that you are aware of Texas poker rules, you can enjoy this game more.
